Rites of Passage
Cambridge Art Association announces an eight-person exhibition, January 16-February 9, 2024
Cambridge, MA, 12/15/2023—The Cambridge Art Association (CAA) is pleased to announce Rites of Passage, a Members Curatorial Exhibit, featuring Patrick Brennan, Sage Brousseau, Anne-Marie Delaunay-Danizio, Yildiz Grodowski, Claire Lima, Alyssa Meadows, Niloufer Moochhala, Elizabeth Sartori.
This exhibit is part of our new Members’ Curatorial Series, an annual opportunity for members of the CAA to curate an exhibit of three or more artists. The exhibit opens on January 16, at our University Place Gallery and remains on view through February 9, 2024. An opening reception will be held on January 25, 5-8pm simultaneously with the reception at CAA’s Canal Gallery. This event is free and open to the public.
A voyage of another kind is happening at University Place Gallery with Rites of Passage, a group exhibition that poses the question, 'In making the journey, are we already home?' Spanning the walls of a literal passageway, the thirty-six exhibited works explore transitional events such as coming of age, traditional rituals, mourning, personal healing, and the physicality of connection and placemaking. To read these works requires one's own meandering, taking both the somatic and metaphorical journey of understanding and celebrating the intricate and consistent influence of place.
The eight exhibiting artists, Patrick Brennan, Sage Brousseau, Annemarie Delaunay-Danizio, Yildiz Grodowski, Claire Lima, Alyssa Meadows, Nilou Moochhala and Lis Sartori- came together under the guidance of artist/curator Frances Jakubek, to gain a deeper understanding of the curatorial process and what collaboration truly means among artists with wildly varying ranges of subject matter and disciplines. “It was overwhelming at first, the search for correlations within such diverse bodies of work, but through deep conversations, a kind of explosion of connections occurred,” says Claire Lima, a mixed-media sculptor and cohort member. “When certain works in the exhibition are placed side by side, the energy of that explosion is tangible.”
Reception: January 25, 2024, 5-8pm at University Place, 124 Mount Auburn St., Cambridge MA
